I just have to say Owen's "control" over the Weevils in this episode was nowhere near as scary as the growl he does at the end of "Combat". In that episode it was all him, his anger. In this one, it's something else...something channelled through him that is subduing the Weevils. But that being said, I don't think Death would have come through if he hadn't had that original quality of such rage.

I'm in the middle of a rewatch atm and sadly gave this ep a 5 and not because of CGI or "Death" mainly cause i didn't get it, was this just a monster of the week ep or were they trying to say something about "Death" and Owen who should be top of the list isn't even in my questions, it had some great parts but most made no sense to me, so i'm asking some questions ?

Why when "Death" comes out does it kill Jack only , why not everyone else ?
How does Gwen find out all this info from just two words "Hunger Earth" but Ianto can't find it and when he does , he is the only one the read the end bit that Faith was a girl? Really not sure who they are saying are thick and useless on the team Gwen or Ianto
Why does the "Glove only want Martha ?

Other points of view would be very welcomed, cause i fell like i missed something

I have no idea why the glove went for Martha. I found that confusing also.

I guess Ianto is just more thorough. Lot of people (me included) have a hard time reading beyond the first few paragraphs of a news story or encyclopedia entry. When I go on Wikipedia and I see that scroll bar shrink to the size of a pea, I start looking at the headings and pick and choose.

I found this to be a typical series two episode that left more unanswered questions and unexplained things than it did produce a story. The Little Girl is one. Was she one of these undead like Owen that the glove resurrected or was she the thirteenth victim of the glove? And we don't know Jack and her have a history until Fragments. I would have liked some more on her. Also there always seems to be this idea of what could be a neat subculture in Cardiff of paranormal or alien life that could have been a nice added feature in Torchwood but once again this was a missed opportunity by the writers to explore this world that Torchwood is in. Second Season always leaves me wanting more creativity at times. I just seemed like I settled for something else.

What made me laugh is the Internet holds such obscure information that Gwen seems to find yet I can't find an address at times for a local restaurant. Did anyone here try searching for an abstract legend? It isn't that easy. It would have been nice if some how it pointed to a blog of a person that has been collecting this information and found that Torchwood had some weird follower like Eugene that put this information together. Or maybe they had to go into the vast library of the Archives and find it by hand. Ianto could have been seen going over reference book after book looking for information. Which is one of his Jobs.

This is my second least episode of season two. Really this whole arch story didn't do it for me.

I didn't mind having the "Little Girl" be mysterious or that we find out later Jack and her had history, it actually made me wonder if she was the one who gave Jack the info in the audio play House Of The Dead, so gave me more things to think about

My problem was more with the info we got, there must have been better ways to relay that to us that made sense, Gwen finding all this info didn't and to find out she didn't read it properly made even less sense than Ianto not being able to find it to start with, cause that is part of his job. I get the "weight watchers" bit was humour but it didn't work doing it like that.

Still completely confused as to why "Death" kills Jack, nor was there anytime to care about it either and the "Glove" just going after Martha maybe if they had connected the two , it would have worked, then we could have gotten all the info at the hospital, instead of Gwens big meeting which makes her look like a right thickie cause she didn't get that Faith was a girl

What i mentioned in the rewatch was maybe too many people wrote this, i don't know how the script meetings work, but it felt like the left side wasn't talking to the right side and put it together and you get Huh

From what I gather, in England the writers go off and write the scripts and then they are sent back and forth for adjustments. Maybe this one got lost in Email?

I don't blame RTD for much, but his atheism and his notion that there's NOTHING after death has given more than my usual share of nightmares. I wouldn't have minded so much if he'd just had characters say it, like in "They Keep Killing Suzie" but Owen's psychedelic foray into the nothingness in this episode has consistently freaked me out.

Had nightmares about it again last night.

I have always been pretty clear on my beliefs about God and the afterlife and it's never really given me any fears or pause. Even being there for both my parents deaths...I've been comfortable in my beliefs. So why should one man's imagery terrify me so much?

It's the notion of Nothing, but obviously having Owen aware of the nothingness, but also aware of SOMETHING out there in the dark. I don't want to think of being in the dark forever. I can deal with just nothing happening...your existence and memories, and consciousness just stopping. But being aware of nothingness...Horrible.

    Damn you RTD!

I don't know if it a comfort or not, but there are times when little things can cause us all to question (consciously or subconsciously) our closest held core beliefs. I have found that confronting such moments head on is not always helpful. Your dreams can often be your subconscious trying to work something out (not always what it appears to be), I don't know if you have tried meditation? (I have found this helpful).
Most important, don't stress about it (not that easy. Sorry).
If you think a deeper conversation on this topic might help you, do feel free to PM me. I would be happy to help if I can in any way.

I also don't know if this is any comfort to you or not but we are talking about 3 characters that are brought back from death unnaturally, Jack because of the Time Vortex and Suzie and Owen because of something Alien in the Gloves, giving them a different connection , so what they see, isn't what someone who dies and stays that way sees, or that's the way i have always taken it
I don't know anything about RTD personal beliefs, that's just the way i saw the story and while Jack dies alot , he keeps coming back so he never reaches what could be and that's part of the tragedy in his story, hope that makes sense . And that you sleep well

Both VERY good points. I often forget that dreams are subconscious ways of working things out. I obviously need to reconnect with my beliefs again. Meditation is something I have never enjoyed. Things that are "supposed" to induce relaxation make me unbelievably tense. I used to fall asleep to a radio program that played old drama/comedy from the 30s/40s/50s etc but they cancelled it. Heavy Metal relaxes me, but not in any "inducing good dreams and sleep" way...lol.

(I just realized with my laptop in my bedroom and wifi, I can connect to iTunes radio and find a channel that plays old radio drama..etc that I USED to fall asleep to..duh. Just have to make sure the computer doesn't fall asleep before I do! lol)

Whoknows....Oh my goodness. You have given me such a great, a-ha moment of realization! That quite literally clears up a sh*tload of anxiety. Thank you!
