I am ashamed to admit, never bought into the hype of this Series so never bothered to check it out
Then, bored walking through Sainsbury's, saw the boxset on the shelf, with an amazing image of Sean Bean as Ned Stark and it just called out to me
Ten episodes of the best quality TV production I have ever seen later, and I am hooked...books ordered, wanting so much more
So, am I the only one who has only just discovered this gem of Story Telling?
Okay that does it...I'm jumping in. I only wish I had listened to a friend of mine who told me about Torchwood when it first started. Sooo not going to do that again.
It Should be pointed out, that this is a very "grown up" fantasy tale, it holld nothing back both in adult content and in physical action
But the story is compelling, in ten episodes, from the first moment to the last moment, the pace is kept constant, you always know what everyone is doing in a story that could so easily get lost in itself, and the opening introduction to the show just brings you back into the world each time...so much the theme song is in my head just thinking about the intro
Watching it baack to back as a result of the boxset was so enjoyable, I intend to do the same with season 2....after reading the books!
And there is a DW crossover, as the guy who plays Daenyrys (the blonde girl who ends up with the horse dude) brother was in Family of Blood!
I loved the credits, so so beautiful with all the little houses rising!
Series 2 starts soon..........
Ah you mean Harold Lloyd, he plays the role of Viserys Targaryen, he is excellent in this part...clearly his experience as the eldest child in the Family of Blood served him well for this show
Game of Thrones does have the most superb cast, mostly British I might add!!, filmed in Northern Ireland and Malta, the scenery matches the scale and scope of the story so beautifully. Only other production to have the same level of cast and presentation is LOTR, so consider that, something with the scale of LOTR in a TV Show, and you wouldnt notice the difference!
I'm going to have to re-watch season 1 of this to refresh my memory before season 2 starts.![]()

And a TW crossover with our favorite cannibal Owen Teale playing yet another not so nice guy, Ser Alliser Thorne. Funny, I did not recognize his face at first, but his voice.
Also, widening TW/DW to RTD, with a wonderful "Stuart Alan Jones" (QAF) aka Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish aka Aidan Gillen. It's his fault that I'm in danger of actually liking Littlefinger! Never did that in the books.

Outside of the Character of Jon Snow, I really can't stand the show. But The Books are very interesting. George R R Martin used the War of the Roses as the bases for his Epic and it is nice to see the sides build up to war something that you know has been brewing for sometime after just a short time into the first book. The Books also have a different way of approaching the sexual relations than in the show. For some reason it is more like True Blood with the sex scenes than what is actually going on in the books. I love the direction the first book took when it uses single characters as the focal point for the events in each chapter. It makes for a nice read. I have to get on with the rest of the story at some point.
