“the people who think they are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

I signed it as do believe that everyone should be able to earn a decent wage and be able to live on it and in humane conditions. Nike was forced to change their ways after they were exposed for using cheap labour sweatshops, other huge companies have since done the same, now the Nike one was amazing as was in the very early days of the internet when not everyone could afford the internet or even had a PC or laptop yet people wrote to the company and got them to change their ways.

I dont agree with violence, angry protesting or rioting but do agree with organised petition or marches with level headed and well thought out reasons behind them.

Amongst other things, I like making lists. I've been working on this for a bit. Some of these are teeny weeny moments, some pretty popular and well-known. And of course I like being mysterious and obscure, so I've tried to be minimalist in my descriptions. They're not all meant to be funny, some are intense moments, but they're what I think are Perfectly Ianto Moments. If you like any of these, or have your own, I'd like to know.

Series 1:

Everything Changes - the head nod/eye roll go on after "Don't keep him waiting"

Day One - "You know, the old fashioned way...with my eyes!"

Ghost Machine - "I think the estate agents pronounce it splow."

Cyberwoman - toe twiddle while ordering coleslaw

Small Worlds - the hand-on-the-shoulder flinch.

Countrycide - tie between grab the chain? oh no, don't grab the chain and smiling headbutt.

Greeks Bearing Gifts - "there isn't an inch of me that doesn't hurt" thoughts.

They Keep Killing Suzie - say it with me "It's the button on the top!" (bonus - torch-wood visual pun)

Random Shoes - coming in the Hub with box, the don't-trip peek down

Out of Time - "but bananas are so much more interesting"

Combat - the whole interview with Jack and the injured man,

Captain Jack Harkness -"I was aiming for your shoulder"

End of Days - coat sniff

Series 2:

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - "yes, yes"

Sleeper - sitting in the chair, hands in cuffs...trying it out. (bonus "We don't sniff the sub-etheric resonator!")

To The Last Man - yes, the kiss, but the "yep" before it.

Meat - the beer drinking smirk (bonus: outtake "Make my day")

Adam - "I'm a monster" (bonus if you notice the teeny bit of snot)

Reset - the scream/duck/silver tray & cookies flying

Dead Man Walking - hockey stick, that look he gives Jack

A Day in The Death - shagging the dog look.

Something Borrowed - the excited "oo" when he sees the dress & pulls it off the rack

From Out Of the Rain - look on his face seeing The Electro

Adrift - smile as he says "he cheats"

Fragments - "By the way, love the coat."

Exit Wounds - "There we are then."

Day 3 - "thirty"

Day 4 - "no, you pretend that's all there is"

I was feeling particularly angst-y and listening to Placebo's "Running Up That Hill" when I wrote this and decided to take it out on Jack. ;)

This takes place before Jack arrives on Miracle Day during his self-banishment from Earth after the events of CoE.

I don't own Torchwood but Torchwood owns my soul. ;)

Thanks to my friend Robin(who is a non-Torchwood/ Doctor Who fan)who read this with an open mind and is a grammar nazi. And thanks to Cate for her support. ;)

"If I only could make a deal with God and get him to swap our places..."

It always starts the same way.

A long, dark corridor with his shoes snapping loudly against the tile floor. A thin bright glow from each passing door is the only source of light that illuminated his way. He had often wondered what was behind those closed doors every time he walked past but those thoughts were quickly dismissed as his attention drifted to the one door at the end of the dark hallway. He was drawn to it. That was the only way to describe it. He had tried to open one of the doors he so often walked past but deep down he knew that even if he did go through a door, it wouldn't have made a difference. No matter what choice he made or details he changed, he would always end up back in the same place.

His heart thudded loudly in his chest. He can feel it throbbing up to his throat. It was a heart that has kept on beating for so long, after a hundred some odd years. It had stopped so many times that he lost count, only to have it start up again. He felt a certain envy and sometimes irritation at people who take their own powerful organ for granted. Those who don't stop and wonder at their own heart beat. To hear its rhythm. To place a hand against their chest and feel that strong muscle thump loudly as fear or excitment rushed through them. The swift flow of adrenline that pumps their hearts, churning their blood throughout their bodies. To cherish that working machine every second of their lives because one day, it will stop. Unlike Jack, whose own heart reboot again and again, no matter the time or the death he goes through. He hardly notices his own rhythm anymore.

Jack's own hands felt cold and clammy. Blood rushed loudly in his ears as he stood in front of the door. He didn't want to open it. He didn't want to be there but he knew that he should. Every fiber of his immortal being told him to turn and run but he couldn't. He was Captain Jack Harkness. A man who stood his ground and faced whatever was put in front of him. He faced down daleks when he ran out of bullets. He fought through two world wars and endless horror throughout his lifetimes.

Without any will of his own, his hand reached for the brass door knob. It felt cold as ice in his palm as he slowly turned it. The metal groaned loudly. Bright white light flooded over him as the door swung open. His breath kicked up a notch and his heart was beating faster than he had ever felt. It was a first time in a long time that he had ever felt truly scared.

He didn't want to be there. He wanted to be anywhere but where he stood. He knew he had no choice. He deserved to be there. Jack's legs stepped shakily into the bright room, his eyes took their time adjust to the light until they fell upon the most horrific scene he had ever seen.
Rows upon rows of dead bodies, covered with that familiar red blanket. The dead of Thames House. He had been in that room so many times before in his mind and the sight always choked him with grief. He blinked back the burning, stinging feeling in the corner of his eyes. The room was eerily silent. There was no sound, no voices except for the sound of a ticking clock.

Jack swallowed loudly against the lump that formed in his throat. He looked up at the sound of the ticking clock, his eyes followed the second hand and watched it reached to the hour of midnight and stop.

He stood apprehensively. Something was different. Something he can't quite put his finger on. It was quiet. Too quiet. As if the place was devoid of any sound. His skin tingled, waiting for something, anything to happen.

His ears caught the sound of something soft. His head jerked to the right in the direction of the sudden noise. His eyes searched around the room. There was nothing. He heard the sound again. Rustling?

His blue eyes went wide with fear as the soft sound became quite clear of what it was. It was the sound of the red blankets falling as one by one each of the bodies of Thames House sat up ram rod straight. Their red blankets pooled around their laps.

They all sat staring dully ahead at Jack who could only recoil away from the scene in front of him, his heart beating faster and faster. He looked at each of the dead, pale faces and nearly jumped in shock at the familiar ones in the front row. The faces of Owen, Tosh, Susie, and his own family. Gray and Steven stared back at him. They looked the same as the day they died. They didn't say a word but they eyes spoke with such volume, it was deafening. Such sadness and regret reflected in their eyes. Jack's own vision blurred with unshed tears. He couldn't take it anymore. He backed away slowly in fear that if he should turn his back at the bodies, they would attack. "They have every reason to," Jack thought to himself.

He quickly stopped. The hairs at the back of his neck prickled with such intensity. Someone stood behind him. And he knows who. He knew even before he walked into the room, before he even smelt that specific aftershave and roasted coffee. His stomach flipped over twice as he turned around. His eyes took in piece by piece of the person in front of him. The dark pinstripe trousers, the matching vest, the light shirt underneath and finally, those blue eyes as he came face to face with Ianto Jones.

Jack's heart lept up to his throat and let out a ragged breath. Not this. Anything but this.

Ianto stood calmly with a wistful smile. He looked so pale. Pale as on the day he died in Thames House. He said nothing. Jack could feel the eyes of the dead behind him bore into the back of his head. He startled as Ianto all at once spoke.

"Glad you're here."

In the past, the sound of those beautiful welsh vowels from Ianto's lips would send wonderful shivers down Jack's spine. Now, it only gave him the chills.
Ianto began to walk towards Jack with a peaceful look on his face. It felt wrong. Something was not right.

"We've been waiting." Ianto smiled gently.

"Ianto, I-" Jack began to talk.

"Don't worry," Ianto interrupted. "We found a place just for you."

Jack's eyes crinkled in confusion. Ianto merely smiled.

It took Jack a second to realize that he was falling and that the stinging cold pressure on his chest was the dead hands of Ianto Jones pushing him. He stumbled, falling back. He expected the feel of the cold hard linoleum floor but he fell with his back onto hard wood as the smell of dirt hit his nostrils. His eyes stared up at a starry filled sky. The cold wind bit through his body. He laid there trembling at the sight of dark walls of graveyard dirt and Ianto standing over him above, holding a shovel.

"Perfect. You're right where you belong." He said, still wearing a smile on his face.

The coffin lid slammed shut, muffling Jack's screams. He pounded furiously, hearing the sounds of dirt landing on the coffin, some falling through the cracks. The shoveling didn't stop.

Jack screamed at the top of voice, his fingers coated with blood as he scratched at the coffin. He choked a mouthful of dirt and let out a hoarse cry.
"No! Please! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please, don't!"

The next shovelful of dirt covered the cracks of the coffin, blocking out the last source of light.

"Don't!" Jack reached out, his right hand outstretched as he suddenly sat forward in bed, gasping.

Sweat trickled down his face like tears. He slowly pulled himself out of the nightmare, his breathing shaky and sweat soaked body trembled. His heart thrummed beneath his naked chest. He placed a wobbly hand over it, feeling the speeding heartbeat. The eternal reminder of his immortal life. He dropped his hand onto his lap, his body shuddering. He pulled in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Movement from the corner of his eye caught his attention, almost startling him. A long slim, blue body lay asleep beside him, the bed sheet barely covering her bare smooth back. Jack sighed. He had forgotten he wasn't alone in bed. Sura was her name. He had met her in some asteroid bar where he was drowning his sorrows when she sensed his grief. Jack took the offer of a night with a Klabian alien in hopes of forgetting with some mind blowing sex(He had heard that Klabians were notoriously empathic creatures with the abilities to magnify and manipulate emotions ten fold especially during sex) at his room along with doses of the Comet Fire Whiskey. While the sex was good and the whiskey sat warm in his belly, it wasn't enough to keep the memories at bay. The nightmares still came every night for practically a month.

He tossed the covers away from him and stood up from the bed. He picked his white t-shirt and dark trousers from the floor and quickly shrugged them on. Jack stood before a large view window of the infinite space. There are still places he has yet seen but deep down, he knew he had to go back. There was an unsettling feeling within him and all around him. Like something was about to happened. Something bad. But something bad was always happening to the Earth. It was like that damn rock was magnet for every shit and every horrible piece of alien trash there is in the universe. It was almost as if it didn't wanted to be saved.

"I am sorry, Jack but you cannot just run away. You cannot run away."

Gwen's voice filtered through his head.

"Are you ever coming back, Jack?"

"What for?"

"Me."

He sighed loudly. Gwen and her growing family. He felt like a frustrated parent. A part of him wanted to just leave and let the people of Earth deal with their own mess and let him deal with his. Another part of him felt a love and responsibility to his adopted home world. He had spent far too long and known too many people to just simply walk away. He had told the Doctor that he sworn and converted Torchwood Three in his name, in his honor to protect the Earth. The Doctor wouldn't turn his back on the planet so Jack wouldn't either.

He stared at the direction of where the Earth was and crossed his arms in front of him. He was going back. He had been gone for so long but he knew he had no choice. Something was going to happen back at Earth and Gwen, Rhys and their baby will be there unprotected. A chill crept up his spine. He knew that if he goes back, his past would be waiting for him.

And it might end bloody.

The End.

These Foolish Things 2

Jack and Ianto had just come home from a rare long weekend vacation. Ianto had found a remote cabin in Snowdonia Park with his lofty ideas of daily hikes and informative nature watching. Jack, seeing the size of the bed had argued for locking themselves in and stepping out only for more firewood. He did concede to making as many animal noises as he could to satisfy the young man's nature cravings. They compromised with 2 days in bed and one afternoon on a vigorous hike that gave them the energy to spend their last night back in bed. Sleeping was done on the bus ride back to Cardiff.

Now they dumped their packs full of dirty laundry in the front hall and made a bee-line for the huge claw-foot tub upstairs.

As they relaxed in their second filling of the tub (the first becoming grey in moments), Ianto leaned against Jack's chest, sighing contentedly in the heat of the water, and his lover's body.

Jack's fingers tickled through the 3 days growth of beard on Ianto's face.

"I think I brought back a bear from the wilds."

Ianto hummed, too relaxed to comment, but then couldn't resist correcting a fact. "No bears in Wales."

"A badger then."

Ianto humphed in consent.

"Speaking of badgers, have you ever had a proper shave?"

There was a long pause as the young man tried to put the two oddly paired ideas together - all he could think of was Badger from "Wind in The Willows" having a shave.

"I shave," he said defensively, not quite sure if Jack was denigrating his hygiene habits. "You've never complained before."

He was given a hard squeeze of apology. "I'm not complaining. Just thinking. I want to give you a shave. A proper, straight-razor shave."

"Where do the badgers come in?"

"The brush is made from badger hair."

"Oh."

"What do you say?"

Ianto shivered slightly. It sounded decadent. Ever since puberty when he'd learned to shave himself, he had never once thought of having it done by someone else. Even when he went to the barber and saw someone laid back on their chair, neck and cheeks covered in lather, being razored so carefully, it hadn't even crossed his mind to see what it was like. Shaving was a necessary chore, often a pain, never really enjoyed and he couldn't imagine it being any different with a straight razor than an electric shaver.

He'd watched Jack shave once, curious to see a straight razor in action up close, but the experience reminded him too much of childhood and watching his father shave, and he just didn't want to go down that road with Jack. He looked up to him enough as it was, didn't need him as a father figure.

"Alright."

Jack's lips touched the tip of Ianto's ear. "It's wonderfully sensuous. You'll love it."

Ianto wriggled with delight.

He wasn't feeling so delightful half an hour later. Dried and dressed in jeans and a tee-shirt he was reclining in his easy chair, it being the only seat that gave enough support and allowed him to stretch out. His face was swathed in a hot cloth and had been for nearly 10 minutes.

"Why am I swaddled up like this?" His voice was muffled under the towel and he was starting to feel claustrophobic.

"Hm?!" Jack leaned over, peering into Ianto's impatient eyes.

"Why the mummy treatment?" Ianto picked at the towel to be able to talk. Jack slapped his hands away.

"To wet the beard..."

"I'm still wet from the bath."

Jack continued. "...and to give me time to prepare the lather and razor. Stop fussing! This is supposed to be relaxing."

"Okay." Ianto closed his eyes and tried to breathe deep. He hadn't thought how much fuss it would be. It was perfectly okay for him to fiddle with details and get everything just so for Jack. That's the sort of task that relaxed Ianto. But sitting, quietly, patiently and having Jack -- or anybody, for that matter, -- do for him. It made him antsy with self-indulgence and laziness, two things that were taboos in his family.

The towel finally came off and the air felt cool against his wet beard and skin. Jack stood over him, leaning against the leather recliner. He had a deep bowl that he was stirring vigourously. He pulled out a lather-full brush and started painting the still warm lather on Ianto's cheeks and neck.

"Ooo! Smells nice." Ianto smiled, then nearly sputtered as the brush swept against his lip.

"Mouth closed." Jack instructed. "Can't get a word out of you at the best of times and when I want to shave you, you get chatty. You have only two duties right now: shush and enjoy!"

"Mm-mm!" Ianto clamped his lips closed and nodded, determined to let Jack do his thing.

The brush didn't just smear the nicely smelling lather over his face, it was worked in with Jack making small digging circles with the brush over each area. When he had a nice layer he then used the brush to sweep it down evenly.

It felt thick and silky, cool and warm all at the same time. There wasn't the tingle of modern, astringent, shaving gels, or the sharp scent, as a matter of fact. He closed his eyes and tried to discern what the soap reminded him of. It was rich and heady, almost musky, and he nearly snorted a dollop of it as Jack carefully swept the lather along his upper lip. Ianto realized it was Jack's scent that was intoxicating him.

"It's sandalwood and ginger, if you must know," Jack chuckled. "I knew I should have used a different lather for you. You're going to get all horny and wriggly now."

Ianto shook his head emphatically, not wanting to have the lather changed. He would do his best to control himself.

Jack slid a finger across Ianto's lips, then brushed the excess from around his nostrils, clearing the lather away. "Don't snort any more."

Ianto nodded, then shook his head, trying to convey just how quiet he was going to be.

"And do stop waggling your head. I'm going to be using a very sharp implement." Jack caressed Ianto's hair, trying to soothe him. He knew Ianto didn't do "relaxed" very well. "Eyes closed, and breathe."

Ianto let himself go, trying to loosen every tight nerve. The scent of the lather, and Jack's touch soon calmed him. He felt a quick kiss on his forehead as Jack moved his hand away.

"Ready?" Ianto just nodded once.

Jack's sure, steady fingers touched Ianto's cheek, then there was the cool edge of the blade. It stroked one long steady sweep down his cheek. Pass after pass, the blade so light against his skin, he wondered if it was doing any work. He felt Jack's fingers holding his skin flat, or pulling it tight for a moment as the blade drew across, or he nudged Ianto's chin up as he swept down his neck almost to his collar.

He wanted to open his eyes, but he decided to give himself over to the new sensations. He felt more and more of the lather, still wet and silky, being scraped off his skin. At one point he remembered the odd grimaces that Jack had made in his mirror when he shaved himself, and he wondered if he should be doing any of that, but Jack hadn't given him any directions yet, so he tried not to move.

When he felt his face clear and cool, he opened his eyes. Jack smiled down at him and ran a warm, wet flannel over his face, wiping up the dots of lather left.
"That was lovely!" Ianto beamed, starting to sit up and reach up to touch his face.

"I'm not done." Jack, put a hard finger on Ianto's chest, pushing him back down into the seat.

"Huh?" he said inelegantly.

"That was the first pass. Two is preferable. One with the grain and one against. Remember: shush and enjoy. I'll tell you when you're done."

"Oh god," Ianto rolled his eyes but laid back again.

"I have never seen anyone fight enjoyment with so much vigour before. See if I do this for you again." Despite the teasing tone, there was an undercurrent of disapproval and irritation.

Ianto felt immediately contrite. He opened his eyes again, catching Jack's hand.

"I'm sorry, Jack. Thank you for this. Really. I'll shush and enjoy." His eyes said what his lips couldn't; I love you.

Jack gave him a long, searching look then nodded, his good-humour easily restored. "That'll be your mantra from now on. Shush and enjoy."

Ianto was still ashamed of being so ungracious. "I promise."

The lather was applied again, cooled slightly. This time Jack was moving the razor in a different direction, up instead of down, and across in some spots. Breathing deeper now, relaxed to a near trance, the scents and sensations triggered Ianto's desire. He became very aware of Jack's hip pressed into the recliner, his legs shifting to balance as he moved around Ianto's face, or his belly brushing against the top of his head as Jack bent over him.

When Jack's hand moved away momentarily, Ianto tried for a casual leg stretch, letting his knees fall open. but his tight jeans hid nothing.

He heard Jack's chuckle. "I am so not letting you get shaved at a barbershop. You'll have the place closed up for a scandal."

"Only if the barber is as good-looking as you."

"They're all old and smell of tobacco and booze." Jack spoke between sweeps of the razor. "Why do you think I shave myself."

The warm flannel was applied again, wiping the soap away carefully, right down to Ianto's shirt collar. Then Jack's warm hands swept over Ianto's cheeks and neck rubbing in the silkiest moisturizer Ianto had ever felt. The massage made him groan with pleasure, arching slightly.

Jack's hands stilled on Ianto's face. He opened his eyes, gazing into Jack's desire-shot eyes, the blue a thin circlet around his wide pupils. The sight made him gasp and he pulled the tall man down onto him on the recliner.

"What do I owe you, master barber?" Ianto rubbed his silky smooth cheek against Jack's slightly rougher one.

"I'm sure we can arrange a fair trade," Jack deep chuckle was cut off by Ianto's eager lips.
~~~~
A tear rolled down Jack's face, tickling into his ear, then another. His eyes closed, he let them fall, unwilling to disturb the barber from his job. He'd spied the tiny little shop and on a whim, directionless, he strode in asking for a shave. At the first touch of the thick lather, scented with sandalwood, the memories rushed in.
The old, dazed barber, newly arrived from Italy, knew not why this young man, with his old-fashioned shirt and braces - so reminiscent of the barber's grandfather who taught him his trade -- was crying in his chair. He didn't even know enough English to ask, so he gently and silently wiped the tears away as he worked. Soon his own memories welled up in his eyes, but his hand was steady and sure.
