Wow fantastic episode,very confusing though!
So sad when Donnas 'kids' vanished...and at the end when her 'husband' saw her but couldn't say her name!

I'm not really sure what I made of this episode....I liked it but it was confusing and I don't really like River Song. I think it left quite a lot of untied ends. But, I suppose, what Doctor Who story doesn't. I didn't think it was as good as Moffats other stories especially The Empty child and the Girl in the Fireplace

Really awesome episode, I enjoyed this much more than the first part. It was super confusing though, I felt a bit lost after it all ended! It was like I knew what was going on, but didn't, all at the same time.
I think I got the books = forest thing a bit quicker than the doctor though, I was sitting there like "Um, books....you know, paper....made from TREES....come on man keep up!" XD
The ep left many questions at the end, especially about River Song and who she will be to the Doctor in the future. The future Doctor she spoke of sounds very different from the man we know and love now.
I just have to say that I can't see how anyone could not like Catherine Tate after her performance in this episode, when her "children" disappeared and she started crying/screaming I actually had goosebumps.
I'm glad the group were re-united at the end, that made me smile. :)

This two-parter has certainly assured me that there is no better man to replace Mr T.Davies.

yeah i know what you mean TDD

it was so sad when donna's husbadn was real - i hope he returns to her near the end of the series .

it was brilliant.
i was a bit confused at some of Donna's story - but it all came together so wella t the end
LOL at the handcuffs.

didnt much like River Song but you know she came through a bit more at the end.
so River Song is actually dead? and living in the mind of the little girl/computer hard drive?

and it was a nice way to wrap it up for a happy ending...

WE LOVE MOFFAT

I was confused (easily done) and still not sure who River Song actually was but hey - it would be boring if everything was explained

7th June 2008, 21:00
I was confused too.
I think we might find out more by the end of the series which is why it's been left purposely confusing... or maybe I'm just thick.

She talks about 'my doctor' as though he's a different doctor but she recognizes his face so is it the same regeneration?
Told you I was confused!

i also don't think theyre married
because of the story she told and said "you turned up on my doorstep"
he wouldn't "turn up on [her] doorstep" if they were married. they would be together

well the paper and the books were made from trees where the vashtha nerada were born they were carrried through from treed to book but were asleep when they awoke the libary deteced them i guess considered them as a virus closed them down and to save the humans in the libary it stored them on the computer like when you save a file to the compter

This was brilliant, my kind of thing, yes I had to concentrate alot. I like Alex Kingston, and loved her in ER. The bit at the end with the sonic screwdriver was tear jerking. 10/10 from me.

I don't know... kinda weird.
Think I'll have to let it settle for a while and maybe comment later

Don't really like RiverSong.

One thing I didn't get, maybe because I don't know the old Who.... When the doctor said he would only tell someone his name if...
What's the "if"?
Not his name, but what is the circimstance that he would tell someone his name?

Magicfire
7th June 2008, 23:29
Not much new to at, but i realy liked this episode.
I wonderd what the "if" was to
don't like River Song
Did get the book/ tree thing
And it was so sad when Donna's "husband" at the end
Like i said noting to at realy.

I voted this 8/10, which is two lower than I voted Silence in the Library. I was slightly disappointed with this half of the story. I didn't like the whole dream world idea. It was a clever idea and Moffat tied all the ends together amazingly as always, but I wanted to see more of what was happening in the library. The dream world was just.... odd. Although I did figure out way before we were told that the little girl was the harddrive of the library.

The ending was amazing however. When River realised that the first time she met the doctor was not the first time he met her and that he always knew how she would die; when she remembered that time is not a straight line with the doctor. That was brilliant and I suddenly liked the character.

I want to know why he would tell her his name though...

I loved it! Gave it 10 out of 10. Me and my other half watched it all the way through in complete silence because it was so intoxicating. It's obvious River was his wife, wouldn't that be the onl;y way he would tell her his name? I also kept thinking about the Master's wife, she picked up the ring from his ashes and I believe the ring was like the watch. Could River Song be a regeneration of The Master? I hope Donna doesn't go out of the series too soon because I think she has a way of humanising The Doctor, he wanted a mate and she is a great mate to him.
Can't wait to see more.

well in the confidential i think they hinted that the only reason he would ever tell anyone his name was becasue he loved them totally .
they said that it was weird for the Doctor to 'find out that you loved someone so much in the future was a terrifying thing'
or something like that.
i dont think they were married - although he did say hes 'not good at weddings, especially my own' and the whole 'like an old married couple'

Great episode, of course, though I was demanding the doc kept up for while there, I think I worked out the girl was the computer about half way through last week's ep! Unusual for me to be fair that so I'm quite proud, lol.

I think the doc and River probably were.. are... whatever, married and she's so gonna be in it again, sometime soon maybe.

At the end of the ep me and my bloke pretty much looked at each other and said "she's gonna be in Torchwood, bet ya"

Kaleidoscope
9th June 2008, 11:46
It occured to me afterwards that the only reason to give her his name would be marriage - because wouldn't he need to be married using his real name? (Assuming marriage traditions haven't changed much.)

but isnt she dead - technically - still?

and ooh never thought of that Kal...
thats true.

kid being the computer reminded me of Gunman of the Apocalypse, episode of Red Dwarf where Kryten (robot) creates a fictional world as a hallucinations to come up with a cure for a virus. I do like how she was watching the whole thing like we were on TV. Beginning of Donna's world confused me, are they in a mental hospital or what?? I do however like the jump cuts instantly you knew something was up.

Was it me or did Donna's perfect guy look like the node who told her it had a dead face?

I loved this epi it was full of sad things but happy things as well. I mean whoa it was horrible losing her kids like that for donna even thought they weren't real and the guy was so sweet poor thing at the end am like can't you hear him please let her hear him. And river good for her she was cool taking his place finally realizing why he did what he did. Love the inside of the mind world was great there at the end. Would so read those spoilers.

on the DW commentary they said that her husband - when he is trying to call out Donna's name at the end and then disappears was going to be an overweight little girl in the first few scripts and edits...
so in Donna's mind he ws a handosme man - but in real life he was a little overweight girl - trying to say Donna's name at the end.

but it got laughed out !! :laugh2:
i can see why!

I loved this episode. Better than Silence in the library.I was very curious what really happened with Donna, and "Miss Evangelista" was a bit scary. More "The Ring" feeling.I don't know why :blusher:
River and the Doctor, like an old married couple....Yeah...And this chain....
I didn't expect this, and the Doctor and the chain....Oh my..... *Bad thoughts* :blusher: :yahoo1:
