View Full Version : Doctor Donna - Couple?

In the last few episodes there have been an alarming number of references to the Doctor and Donna being a couple and them fiercely retorting back.
i just thought this peculier...
I know they want to get the point across Donna and the Doctor are not going to be more than friends but so many times.
Nearly every episode...
[spoiler:180pn3sq]in this weeks episode it comes up to. The Unicorn and the Wasp - Agatha Christie tells them they're a peculier couple. Doctor and Donna protest. Agatha Christie realises they both arent wearing a wedding ring.[/spoiler:180pn3sq]

Has it significance or just me reading in to deeply?

I hope they're just running a joke rather than insinuating that we'll see an actual relationship... The Doctor remaining outside of relationships is a significant factor in his being. And Donna is so wrong anyway...!

I think it' *is* a running joke.
On one hand I think it's mocking the general assumption that when a man and a woman travel together, they *must* be a couple, and on the other hand they use it to show that there genuinely is *no* love interest between them. I think (and I don't know the older doctor/companion relationships), the doctor has finally found *the* perfect mate (as in best mate, get your minds out of the gutter  ) to travel with. A friend he can share with, with no risk of emotional attachment
err ... is it obvious I like Donna?

Yeah I agree. All the way through the last series there's always been a (tiresome) will they or won't they thing going on between The Doctor and his companions.

i just hope they dont carry on with it every episode because if it is just a long running joke (which i think it is really) its not very funny its just a bit annoying, they should just let the whole doctor/companion love interest/couple thing go now

mmm, I obviously see it differently than most of you.

Their reactions are just so funny every time, and so different.
With both Rose and Martha, you could see there was something there, but with Donna ...
they're both just so genuinely abhorred by the idea of being seen as a couple. I like it :)

but I guess that's just me

I hope it's just a running joke; I like them as friends. It's refreshing.

I actually like Donna better than I did Rose or Martha. *Cowers*

oh Amy....
you just had too didnt you!
i do like Donna surprisingly alot! more than i always thought.
i know they arent going to be an actual couple becasue its been repeated in various interviews and confidentials.
but maybe its a reference to something else...
like the *couple* the doctor will become when a certain someone returns perhaps...

also i heard from Catherine tate in an interview that Donna has a love interest with ssomeone elsse

I've just been seeing it as a running joke taking the piss out of the other 3 series' of new who where it's been all about the 'love interest'

Yes!.. but i like her too!
And i agree with you. The doctor wanted a friend and thats whats hes got. Someone he can share things with and have a laugh with without worrying about their feelings for each other. the both know where thay stand.

I like Donna a lot. She's down to earth and isn't afraid to tell The Doctor what she thinks. I also hope that there is no love interest between them because I think he needs a mate, he can tell her things, like about his family, and knows he can trust her.
I am a big Donna fan. I liked her in the Runaway Bride and was delighted when she came back.

I'm actually finding I prefer Martha now. Donna is bareable but irritating. And I've realised Rose was a bit too clingy with the Doctor.

Anyway if it is a running joke about the doctor and Donna being a couple, I wish they'd stop. It's annoying and yes we all get it, they're not a couple and Donna is practically horrified at the thought of it. Get over it already! :eyeroll:

i didnt like Donna in the Runaway Bride but i have definately warmed to her
martha is just more her own person..

Yeah same! I've been rewatching some of the earlier Martha episodes and she's so...gah! Just gah  but in the S3 finale and her appearances in TW and S4 I've really liked it! It's as if she's grown up a lot. It's nice.
