There's a picture!!

http://images.play.com/bc/5403314m.jpg

"Torchwood" is an action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled sci-fi series following the adventures of a team of investigators, working for the secret organisation Torchwood, who use scavenged alien technology to solve present day crime - both alien and human. The team, led by the enigmatic, ever-watchful Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman, reprising his Doctor Who role in this spin-off from the legendary series), are separate from the government, outside the police and beyond the United Nations. This full-color companion to the show contains behind the scenes secrets, cast and crew interviews and some exclusive new "Torchwood" short stories!

and it's now £4.99 on play.com

I got mine this morning - two lovely copies... and I am proud to say that Black Water is the first story in the book... right at the front :) And the brilliant Joe Lidster closes the show with a cracking yarn called Monster. I am sitting down to read Andy Lane's tale right now. It's a lovely thing - I have the US edition which has a dust jacket, the UK ed doesn't... but there are so many great pics in there. There's one of Ianto in Black Water that is going to have the Squee Patrol melting :)

Thanks for that Stephen. Looking forward to this as I was going to buy it when I got to the UK but, hmm, dust cover on the US version eh? Decisions, decisions, decisions about which one to get then!

Ianto is always very welcome around here :blusher:

I got mine in Forbidden Planet and it was already discounted to £5.99. Its filled with bits from the magazines like the bio's from the first magazine with the odd birthdays (i.e. Ianto's is 02/12/82), the John and James interview, a detailed map of The Hub, which I'm sure has more details, episode guide, guide to Something Borrowed, guide to prosthetics with Freema and finally 5 stories. There's enough new stuff in there to warrant the price but I wouldn't pay more then £5.99 for it.

Yup, its past the 22nd. I would shop around because the Cardiff branch didn't have it but the Bristol one does and don't trust Amazon.

I ordered it from play.com yesterday for £4.99 as a gift to myself for finally finishing Themes in Lit
it says pre-order when you buy it (they might not have updated the site yet ...)
but on my order it now says out of stock, awaiting stock ...
*is waiting ... patiently*

I got mine on Saturday from the shop in the Doctor Who exhibition whilst in London - I paid £7.99 for it - its good but as others have said I wouldn't pay more than that especially as I've read most of it anyway except the 5 short stories. I didn't realise it had extra bits but I guess I haven't had a proper look yet.

Probably in more general sci-fi shops, I've found getting TW stuff in ordinary shops quite hard. If any one's having trouble I'm willing to go to Forbidden Planet and get more copies, supplies with standing.

OK this may seem like a completely stupid question but what is in the yearbook? (I have no idea what a yearbook is) Like..What is the point of one? What is it for?

Gills Girl

I got it last saturday (the 16th) at the London DW Exhibitoin

Basically a yearbook is an annual. Wikipedia says - An annual publication, more often called simply an annual, is a book or a magazine, comic book or comic strip published yearly. For example, a weekly or monthly publication may produce an Annual featuring similar materials to the regular publication.

In this case its a compilation of articles that are in the Torchwood magazine along with a few extra bits.

Hope that helps :good:

Oh right!! I completely get it now thanks!!
So if I have all the magazines (which I actually don't lol but) is it worth buying it for the extra bits??

Chelle
30th August 2008, 22:24
If you haven't read all the magazines I'd recommend it, but I have read them all and I still bought it, as did many others probably. :laugh2: If its Torchwood, its mine.

I paid £5.99 for it and yeah I thought the extra bits were worth it, The Hub info is a bit more then what was in the magazine and the stories were nice enough.

I just had a wee thought one thing it should have is a detailed map of the SUV just like the one that was done for The Hub.

So, I got my US version last week (dustjacket an all!), and am wondering if the content is the same. Someone on the JB email list was saying there are three versions to be found for sale online, and that got me wondering! The last few times I have tried, the titan books page has been down.

At any rate, I really am enjoying it since I've yet to be able to afford importing issues of the magazine. It's nice to have something shiny to tug along with me places.

owlpost1992
30th September 2008, 15:29
This is what the UK version has: Team bio (one with wrong birth dates), 5 stories: Black Water, Mrs Acres, The Beauty of Our Weapons, Plant Life and Monster, a detailed cut down of The Hub, interview with John and James, Series 2 guide, Aging Agyeman and a load down from Gwen and Rhys's wedding.

Does yours have anything different?

MissNoraHoadley
30th September 2008, 18:49
Nope, sounds like the same thing to me! I was hoping that was the case, as there is some part of me that would be tempted to buy all of the versions heh.

Thanks for the comparison :ok:

owlpost1992
30th September 2008, 20:09
Hmm, wondering if there is a third version. Cover change not with standing.

MissNoraHoadley
1st October 2008, 00:18
The mods on the list I was referring to wouldn't let people reply to that topic on the list, as it was not strictly John Barrowman. I haven't found three versions, but I might have to email the poster just to find out what she was talking about!
