This episode was fantastic, loved it! Gwen was going a little overboard on the crazy with the whole "I'm having the wedding anyway" thing.
The bit where Ianto and Jack danced at the end was sooo sweet!
Can't wait for next weeks BBC3 episode, looks fantastic!!!

Looks like Jack was married. Aww Ianto the wedding fairy.
This episode was so funny I loved it. [Apart from the Jack/Gwen at the end but I'll let them off as Ianto got to dance with him]And Owen and Tosh danced didnt they??

I'm not a shipper of any kind but the Jack/Gwen scene was very touching and loving. How she rubbed his hand and looked into his eyes, very sweet.
But also sweet when he danced with Ianto and the music went really well with it.

Bloody brilliant, even with the Gwack elements. It's nice to see it as a really deep friendship; I just think it works better.
Held my attention fully, I put down Lord of the Flies five minutes in, and at the end noticed I'd consumed over half a box of Cheerio's! Considering I'm meant to read the book by tomorrow, that means the episode must have been pretty gripping.
Oh, and lulz@Rhys' mum and Ianto the wedding fairy.

5th March 2008, 22:46
Rhys Mum was scary!
Next weeks looks sooo freaky
I want a friendship/relationship like Jack/Gwen have

I really loved this episode, especially at the end when Ianto & Jack danced together.
I was squeeing so hard, and it was to the song I made a Janto vid to as well.
Although I'm 100% anti-Gwack, I thought the scenes between them were beautiful.

I had so much fun watching this
And Ianto's line about being a wedding fairy. ROTFLMAO
Ianto and Jack dancing *sigh* wonderful.
And Rhys! I love Rhys :)
This was a great episode
So are you guys seeing that Jack / Gwen relationship as very good friends / siblings? That has been my take on it so far. That Gwen is more into Jack in a romantic way (and we have seen Gwen's romantic decisions being interesting to say the least) but I see caring in Jack towards Gwen but not in any romantic / sexual way.
I'm just afraid that the gwackers will see things that actually aren't there and run with them again as undeniably truth :search:

Let them think what they like, aslong as they are happy!
I see it as a deep loving relationship that wasnt meant to be but the feelings will never go away

It does seem like, Jack wants what Gwen has, a stable relationship, marrying and not having to loose that person and live on.
I think he does see Gwen as marrage material and would love to have that.

Everyone gets what they want if they see things differently. Jack and Gwen obviously care very much for each other. Some see it as romantic, some don't.
The dancing was just so aww! Pretty random with Jack and the confetti at the end!

Soooo... I take it Gwen and Rhys do manage to tie the knot then?! (still waiting for it to "magically" appear). That's fantastic... I quite like Gwen/Rhys.

I think this is why I am anti-gwack as I think that Gwen and Rhys together are what each of them needs. Rhys is such a lovely guy, down to earth, there to support her no matter what and he cooks and cleans! It's about time that the nice guy got the girl....

These are my issues with Gwack for the most part, too. Sure, I'm all Janto, but Jack's a whore and we love him for it... but Gwen has something really strong with Rhys and her constantly taking it for granted or neglecting him just grrrrrrrs me. He's so nice, and you're right, it's about time the nice guy finished first!!! Every time I find myself disliking Gwen it's because of something she's done to Rhys...

Hey, kinda my first post ever, how exciting!
O..k. so I loved this episode, thought it was really funny, but cos I keep reading spoilers, I was waiting for moments to come that people had been talking about and not liking. For example, the whole part where Gwen and Jack are dancing and she asks him what he's going to do when she's away and he does his whole "Pizza...Ianto...Save the world a few times" bit, I thought it played out really cute, as though Gwen realises that Jack doesn't really wanna have a full-on relationship with her and she doesn't want one with him. I'd read it to be a flippant comment, but I just didn't take it that way, I saw it more as an acknowledgement of Jack and Ianto as being together.
And Ianto's little cut in at the end, terribly cute.
And next week, looks amazing! Can't wait already.

Welcome!!! :hello:
I quite like that view, and can't wait to see it play out that way... *kicks "magical means" to get in gear* I wanna watch this now... gah... :beg: I do agree that it seems odd if Gwen is so stuck on Jack why she gets on so well with Ianto and why she doesn't flinch at any mention of their relationship. She's not as fangirly as Martha (LOVE fangirl!Martha to bits), but she doesn't seem to care or feel threatened by it. Owen is the one to make light of it constantly (and I think that's mostly to rile Ianto up)... so... :dontknow:

I saw it that way too, and I was worried about it seeming a bit casual, but it really wasn't.
And I loved the dancing. Brilliant!

Maybe it purely because I'm on the Janto bandwagon, but even Jacks look over his shoulder towards Gwen as Ianto cut in to me didn't imply any romantic feelings, just a reflection on his friend getting married. Nothing wrong with feeling happy for her.
Gwen had begun to annoy me the past couple of episodes, but I actually enjoyed seeing her this week. I thought she was hilarious. Which i'm so glad about, because I don't think I could have dealt with her much more, i felt she was becoming slightly obsolete with these Owen-centric episodes, just there to point out obvious things and look things up on google. But I loved her this week!!!
And I thought Ianto buying the wedding dress was the sweetest thing.

Ok maybe it was because someone came to the front door and I totally missed the dancing at the end, but I didn't enjoy this episode as much as I thought I would. Rhys was excellent-I love Rhys and Jack was great too.
I really loved that Rhys punched Jack, all that stuff with his mother was great, and he saved the day! The bridesmaids were very funny, Tosh was unnecessarily rude and mean to Banana Boat though.
Worst stripper ever btw, he just ripped his clothes off in one go :nope:
Jack as the shapeshifter was brilliant-very creepy.
Oooh the scene in the dress shop was great though!
Buuuuuuut (and I kinda hate myself for this-a lot) GDL had some fairly awfully delivered lines-the bit about speaking ill of the dead, even the wedding fairy bit - and it hasn't been the first episode that his dialogue has been really rushed and lost in the mumble. The scene in Jack's office with the dresses was good though.
Why didn't they retcon everyone BEFORE the wedding re-started? Now no one's going to remember Gwen and Rhys's wedding.
Eve Myles Welsh accent seemed to magnify about ten fold throughout, and again with some real over acting on her part.

I liked the humor.... and *gasp* I actually kinda liked Gwen in this ep. But Rhys is a saint.... can I have him?
The Jack/Ianto dancing was so beautiful and with that song... since Ianto was the dj, I wonder if he chose it specifically.
I'm sure I'll have more to say later.

My favourite bit had to be the little look and planning for later between Ianto and Jack in the hub when discussing inseems. And then Ianto catching himself when Owen walked in. Had to watch it like 5 times before I could move on and watch the rest of the episode. Teeheehee...
Beyond that, the episode was really engaging. Even if it was Gwen-centric, I didn't mind. And I adore Rhys more than ever and am very glad Gwen wisened up and took the right man for her! And I LOVE Jack's line about the "hero getting the girl" but meaning Rhys and not himself. It showed that the writers are very aware of the conventions of these sorts of things and are willfully challenging them. There are so many little bits that demonstrate the assumption of Jack with Gwen and yet they turn it on it's head... probably the best bit of writing they've ever done.
I, too, find it hard to fathom that Jack is pining over Gwen in this and not just whistful for weddings what with him returning to the hub and seeking out his own wedding photo (I feel he'd have been mooning over a picture of Gwen if it was her specifically that he wanted). Gwen basically challenges Jack that he can't commit, and we see at the very end that Jack can and will settle down, yet he never corrects her or offers himself up and he further pushes her to Rhys. And Rhys was so bloody brilliant... chainsaw Rhys owned this episode!!!

I love the episode 9 it was brilliant but I felt sorry for jack because you can tell that he loves Gwen but I think gwen thinks its just a friendship thing bless it was sweet when jack and gwen danced and gazed in each others eyes for while then ianto cut in I felt sorry for ianto because he's only been used bless the next episode looks dead freeky lol

Ianto DJ'd? That I did not notice! Bless him. I love Ianto. The scene in the dress shop was adorable! The way he held it up in front of him in front of the mirror was just too cute.
And plenty of Janto moments - very good. Especially liked the moment in Jack's office (I think it was there) where Ianto's explaining how his father could size up a man's inner leg just from his stride and Jack wants to find out if it runs in the family. Hot!
However I did find it a bit of an annoying storyline. The way I see it, Gwen clearly loves Jack so I thought she laid the whole "I love Rhys and only Rhys" parts on way too much. But since I am in no way a Gwen/Jack shipper I should be happy that she's finally married and leave Jack for Ianto to take care of.

Is it just me or did it look like Gwen died when Rhys zapped the egg out of her? Kind of like in Countrycide when she was shot and looked all still and dead then was moaning in pain a few minutes later. I am still thinking that there is a connection between her and Gwyneth and now I am wondering if she, like Jack, can't really die. This is the third time something has happened to her where she seemed dead, totally still, then "awoke" with a huge inhalation of air. I know she has parents and supposedly grew up and all but, as we have seen in Adam and Sleeper, memories can be subjective and altered. Maybe that is why the retcon didn't work so well when Jack gave it to her in the first episode. If that is the case maybe Jack knows about it and that is why he seems so very close to her.

No I don't think I could stomach it either. Not big on birth scenes anyway lol.
I think her body went very still when Rhys zapped alien bubba due to the shock. I could be wrong though. When she gets hurt she has this calm expression then she goes ballistic lol.

I think that was the point. Jack even comments about "immaculate conception" earlier on... so I think it was pretty blatant what they were doing.
Funny, everyone whines and moans about the whole bi/homosexual "agenda" RTD has... but what I see more is an athiestic "agenda"... which you think would piss more people off. :dontknow: Maybe it's just because I live in a very puritanical area, that I always wonder on how the bible-thumpers would freak out... but doesn't most homophobia stem from strong religious beliefs? Ironic that they care more about a removed, indirect "threat" than a direct one.

Wow, I just watched this episode (recorded it) and I had to say its probably the best one of the series so far. Those shapeshifters were seriously scary! I think it was quite obvious to spot when Jack came back into the room to see Gwen that it wasn't really him, it was so unlike him, he was all over her. That bit freaked me out. I keep watching that bit though. Good to see Rhys going a bit crazy with the chainsaw. So sweet with Jack and Ianto dancing. It just gets better and better with each episode, I love this show.

I'm afraid I always LOL whenever anyone likens the Jack/Gwen relationship to a sibling relationship. Siblings don't stare into each other's eyes as Jack and Gwen did during that dance. At least, I hope real sibling wouldn't. ;) They were so engrossed in their little moment, that it took several beats before they saw or even acknowledged that Ianto was trying to cut in on them. As well, when she asked if he was going to miss her, his answer was very telling, "...always".
Jack's line in the SUV on the way to the wedding was interesting as well, "All I'm saying is that if you're going to make a big deal about getting married then why have it done in the middle of nowhere to do it. That to me shows inner conflict!" Actually Jack, to me, your line shows your inner conflict.
Your comment about 'Gwackers' seeing things that aren't there simply isn't very polite. Disagree if that's what you see, but need you be rude about it?
RisenMitten
7th March 2008, 03:17
I think Noo is talking from past experience there lythia and didn't mean any disrespect to you personally.
I don't see Jack as brother and sister either, but I don't see them romantically linked. I think it's very one-sided from Gwen, but it's rather moot now that she's married.
I see Jack more as a father figure to Gwen than a brother. Gwens reaction to Jack to me seems more kinda like the Freud theory around the Oedipus complex - that children have a hatred/death wish towards parent of the same sex and a love/attachment towards the parent of the opposite sex.
Agree with Risen that I just can't see anywhere in either the show or the official spin off materials that Jack has romantic feelings for Gwen. It might have been heading that way at the start of the first series, but now it's all one sided from Gwen.
RM was right in that it wasn't directed at you lythia, but the Gwackers that I have tried to have a discussion with about this matter before have been a little, umm deluded is probably the best word, and not willing to listen to other points of views.
