Brilliant idea.

It just seems lately, that no matter what you say about anything relationship centric, no matter how positive you think you're being, or how innocent your comment, you get pounced on by people. Even if you didn't mean to suggest that they were wrong or right or whatever. It's getting out of hand...isn't it? lol Hopefully this solves that...or at least cuts down on the bruising.

And I would have just as easily posted this in the Gwen/Jack thread, but this is just the first one I found. lol

Nice to see they kept it in - adults seem to think kid's are overly sensitive, when most really aren't. I was immune to sex scenes of any kind by the age of about 7. I even starred in a couple of educational video's about gay rights, which I sincerely hope don't surface some day. DX

The Jack/Ianto snog made my week. It was soooo full on and sweet ( I love GDL even more for it... I'd say I love JB, too, but he gets to be on the side that may actually enjoy a gorgeous man attached to their face :wink: while GDL wouldn't... so that he went for it so well, gahhh... :swoon: ).

I know some said it seemed like a jump from episode 2, but I think it's necessary that Ianto starts it, seems very in keeping with a particular character trait that's developing. By which I mean, the pattern seems to be that Ianto initiates when Jack is distant/upset. He propositioned Jack in "They Keep Killing..." when Jack was upset over Susie's death/betrayal and here he does it when Jack seems rather guilty/distracted by the whole Tommy/Tosh mess. Just shows what Ianto meant by "Jack needs me" I think. But then all other regards he seems a bit distant and Jack is the one to start things up... we know Ianto cares deeply (the jacket seen in "End of Days" and the emphatic "Yep" in "To the Last Man") but I think he only shows it when Jack needs him to (hence these scenes and the necessity of these scenes in deepening our understanding of their developing relationship!).

And they did say this season we'd get to see what went on more after hours at the hub, and this scene is definitely one of those! I mean, not only is it obvious when Tosh's clock flips over to midnight in the scene prior, but it "blurs" (again from spoilers) the two's working/romantic relationship. So, I don't think the whole scene was random, but more of what's always been going on, we've just never seen it until now. Just as Ianto initiating the kiss seems to highlight bits of his personality (and it makes the kiss actually a necessity to the plot).

Errrmmm... I hope that wasn't debate-y. I know I'm one of the guilty party that likes to debate, but this is more just SQUEE to how I think this pairing is developing. It's something I'd post in a Jack/Ianto community, where I know no one will debate things, so I'm not trying to start anything. Just all hyped and excited and wanting to share my thoughts!!!

Someone had an animated icon of that anagram in one of the slash communities I'm on and it rearranges the letters from "subtext" to... [beep] and I think I couldn't shut up about how clever I thought that was for days. Because, really, in every fandom with slash, it's always the subtext we argue with to support that anagram, so it's terribly fitting. I can't read/use the word "subtext" without thinking about the anagram. I think I even used "subtext" to mean the other thing one drunken weekend with my friends (never get a room full of drunk English/Liberal Arts majors... scary! :shock:)

But I think it's even BETTER here in TW, as we know our beloved show got its name as an anagram of DW. Teeheehee.

And to put us (more) on topic... I think Gareth had to pound back a bottle of mouth wash for that kissing scene!!! And what is that clock noise when Ianto's index finger slides down Jack's ear just after he's grabbed his face?! It gives me tick (hahaha, bad pun) every time!!!

Well, that spoiler really, truly fried my brain, I think. I was all ready to go out and get some caffeine before going off to tutor but I can't function properly now. So, since there are 52 cards in a deck of playing cards and the cover of the TW book "The Twilight Streets" has Ianto as a joker/clown and Jack as the "Jack of Hearts" I've decided to keep a deck on my dresser and take a card off for each day that passes... until the brain-melting goodness arrives. I like that it ties in both the episode and the very heavily implied "Ianto <3 Jack" cover of the book (SYMBOLISM!!!). Yay to finding this out 52 days in advance, lol. :grin:

As to the cover, I never even noticed that it was Jack's face on that card until someone pointed it out. I just hope the story actually has bits of Jack/Ianto. I was so disappointed with the other books... Ianto seems like such a side character, rarely mentioned. And it's rather sad, but too much fanfiction makes me want to "Ctrl+f" for "Ianto" so I can find the parts he's in the books, and when I can't I get all frustrated!!!

Yeah, they "watch" it... but mostly because I subject them to it every Saturday. :wink: Despite having seen every episode a week and a half earlier than it airs on BBCAmerica (I do so love "magic"), I really want to do my part to help maintain the ratings. After all, TW is BBCA's top rated show of all time, and I want it to stay that way. So, every Saturday I sit down in front of the tellie, like a good little girl, come 9 pm and watch the show. They watch it because it's on the TV in the living room and Saturday night tv is rubbish for the most part, so it beats most everything else on. It's rather nice for me to watch it again, because it reminds me of bits and pieces I loved in the last episode as well as has me viewing the episode on the whole when normally I just obsessively watch favourite parts of the latest ep over and over again (like it was nice to rewatch all of "Sleeper" and remember how nice that whole episode went inbetween watching THE KISS on constant loop... just like next Saturday I'll get to appreciate the beauty of all of "To the Last Man" that I've neglected in favour of Janto!). It also is more fun to watch it on a 52 inch tv over my little laptop screen. In short, I wouldn't call them fans (they've never seen any of series 1... but I might force them to at least watch the bit where Gwen retcon's Rhys so they see why I dislike her; they think she's rather nice and sweet, which she is for the most part in series 2, unless you get why her mooning over Jack and screwing over Rhys is annoying) but they don't dislike it.

I do admit, I had some hesitations when first watching it with them. I didn't know how my dad would take the Jack/John kiss in KKBB, seeing as how he is your typical American male. But he didn't even bat an eye or squirm or anything (I think I squirmed more while I was peeking at him during the scene).... score one for pops! And my mum, well, she and I discuss the "subtext" between Bartleby and Lokey every time we watch "Dogma" (she totally sees the UST, too) so I had no worries there. And she just rolled her eyes and humoured me when I talked her head off about THE KISS last Wednesday (I do love that she insists on refering to Ianto as "eye-candy". ex: "OMG! Jack and Ianto kiss and it's AMAZING!!! They are so in love!!!" and she's like, "So that's the Captain with eye-candy then, right?"). LOVE my mum!!!

But yeah, part of me is like "if you keep backing Jack loves Gwen, dad, no more TW for you" while the rest of me is like "look at the Jack/Ianto snogging love... behold it's power you cannot deny it's greatness!" I'll see how "To the Last Man" goes this week to see if they are allowed more TW. :wink:

I would just like to point out that in an interview with JB he said that in this series we get to see a relationship between two men develop so I think it is important all these bits that are happing slowly between Jack and Ianto, I think in an interview with GD-L for SFX mag (don’t quote me on the mag) also he said you get to see a lot more about the two of them directly (no matter how frustrating that may be to see it devlope slowly :gaah: )

I know what you mean about the ships (Jack/Ianto V Jack/gwen). well done to the BBC for taking the harder and more interesting option. It would have been easy to write it as Jack/gwen. Easy, normal and dull. I like to be different. I get bord stupid with dull. To be honest the only time I bother to turn my TV on is for Torchwood. Thank the powers that be that the writers have brains and imagination or my TV would be useless! The fact that Jack/Ianto together gives me happy dreams is beside the point! :derisive:

Ok... so, I was worried about "Meat" and what it meant to Janto... but I'm not now...

[spoiler:14x2024f]The relationship discussion was classic and Gwen&#39;s devotion to Rhys actually made me happy... he was amazing by the way. Loving Rhys.

As to Jack&#39;s jealousy, perhaps I&#39;m too deluded to see it, but well... I didn&#39;t see it. Not really. Not in a romantic sense. I saw him feeling threatened because Rhys was getting in the way of TW business, but rational enough. I think that one line "You have to do as I say" summed it all up, what he felt. Rhys knowing and being there was threatening his control on Gwen. That she&#39;d give up her memories to stay with Rhys and Jack saying "I&#39;d know" all makes me feel like he&#39;s pissed off because this is exactly what he feared would happen. The "heart" of the team would be too torn to be useful anymore. She was ready and did go against his orders for Rhys, and Jack demands a certain level of authority. That&#39;s also what her kissing Rhys and looking at Jack looked like... Gwen challenging Jack&#39;s decisions again... must say, that was what I was most worried about. Everyone said he seemed to be mooning over her and so distraught as she kissed Rhys and as if she was trying to make him jealous. Thank God, that&#39;s not how it ended up. She just looked pissed and he looked equally pissed off at the challenge in her eyes and not really the kiss so much. So, again, maybe I&#39;m just too against it to see it as anything romantic in the slightest![/spoiler:14x2024f]

I'm putting this here because some Janto fans seem disheartened. If anything it makes me feel next week's episode will have certain similarities [spoiler:14x2024f]Gwen loved Rhys enough never to doubt his innocence. Jack loves Ianto enough to know he&#39;s not a killer. Beautiful parallel, if you ask me.[/spoiler:14x2024f] I'm also putting it here because I want to get other Janto fans thoughts on it without it becoming a huge debate. If I put it in the episode thread, it'll probably explode into more. So... thoughts?

Lol... well, I couldn't resist and added a little barb of my own to that thread. I actually don't intend it to start anything, but it was my reaction to the episode in lue of all those spoilers that made it out that Jack was soooo blinded by jealous fury. Pfft... definitely didn't see that!! Maybe slight envy, maybe a little peeved offishness... and sure, if you like the Gwack, I can see a wee smidge of him wanting Gwen (but it's vague and fully open to interpretation and I can only see it when I'm trying to be less Jantoly subjective)... but nothing like everyone was making it out to be. So, pfft... :tongue:

I like the interpretation that I read that all this Gwack-y BS is actually a farewell to the pairing. They are giving all the reasons people might provide to get them together and showing how they will fail in the end (like Jack being jealous and demanding Gwen to be with him and yet she still picks Rhys, or Gwen giving Jack room to steal her away and yet he pushes her to Rhys). And yet, with Janto, it seems to be building. We're getting more and more of how they've always been behind the scenes and we see there is more to it than "just a part time shag". And the date thing?! Yeah... they are progressing it while Gwack seems like a boil ready to burst into a pussy mess of ick (don't you just love that visual?!)! :wink:

Anyways, tired, pissed off that UNC lost to Duke, desperate for more Janto. Not much in this episode to keep watching, over and over again (though I love that relationship talk). And at least unlike in "Sleepers" when they wrote Ianto as witty snark-monster (funny as all get out, I admit, but rather OOC it seemed), they at least gave him other facets of his personality. I LOVE him being rather evil-ish and dark while still being a total brat. As GDL says, he's TW's "mystery man" 'cause we really have no idea just what he's like outside of work and Jack.

Can't wait for the next episode. It's going to ROCK!!!

I mentioned this in another thread, but I guess this is the more appropriate place. It was evident how terrified Jack was when Ianto was tussling with the bad guy. Yay for Ianto kicking some butt! But oh man... the last scene in the Hub when Jack argued with Gwen, then rushed by Ianto (only snatching water or something without any acknowledgement)... Ianto visibly exhaled. He looked pretty crushed. My opinion is that Ianto knows perfectly well that Jack also has feelings for Gwen. Ianto is able to handle it all in good humor, because *he's* the one that gets to have Jack both emotionally and physically. But there are those moments, those painful moments, when Jack and Gwen get so heated and Ianto is forced to see that there's a piece of Jack that isn't his. I think the biggest issue isn't really Jack/Ianto vs Jack/Gwen, but rather partners who are perfectly happy with one person (Ianto & Rhys) and partners who aren't (Jack & Gwen).

SInce the beginning of the series, anyone notice that Ianto is in Jack's office ALOT. For no obvious reason.

Like at the end of last night's ep, Jack comes out of his office to get yelled at by Gwen, and he passes Ianto who's standing in the doorway (IN HIS SHIRTSLEEVES WITH THE WAISTCOAT UNDONE!!!) Ah I digress...

I can't think of other specific examples at the moment, but Ianto has been standing in the doorway of Jack's office, come out of the office right behind Jack (end of Sleepers), etc.
And in the conference room he's usually standing right next to Jack. Hmmmm....


I'm digressing again....
In my own mind, just after the camera cuts away from Jack in his office at the end of last night's ep, Ianto walks over to the desk and offers him some comfort. (Hmmm, do I see a fanfic coming... that is if someone else hasn't beat me to it)

OK, rewatched that end bit and tried not to get too distracted by how gorgeous GDL looked, and I've got to say, even if it's all suppose to mean Jack loves Gwen romantically, I didn't take Ianto as looking jealous or upset. He just looked like... "woah, tense situation" just like Tosh. If he had been upset about Jack's feelings, I think he would have looked off after him for a minute, instead he just lets out a breath and puts his hand in his hair... all of which mean "holy crap... that was tense, glad it's over... kind of awkward now". I had almost wished it was him upset/jealous... would have been sweeter in a way (if that scene really implies Jack/Gwen, which frankly I don't see... so maybe that's why I don't see Ianto worried over it). :dontknow:

My thoughts on the whole "love interest" thing:

1. Retroactive... some sort of flash back to someone Ianto use to love and it's "new" in the sense that it's new to us as viewers.
2. It's Jack. Before they were just "f*ck buddies" now it's actually a relationship, hence the "new" part. It wasn't "love" before so he wouldn't quantify as a "love interest."
3. This is my take on it due to some "Adam" spoilers, probably WAY off: [spoiler:3f8mn0gh]It&#39;s an implanted memory. Ianto thinks he is a serial killer and many serial killers stalk/obsess over their victims. Usually one of the first kills is someone close to them (ie. usually it&#39;s like their mother or wife or something, and every kill thereafter is a manifestation/reenactment of that original kill... sorry, use to want to be a forensic psychologist, serial killers fascinate the crap out of me, I admit), so Adam will make Ianto believe he killed someone he loved... and to create this false "love" it would mean Ianto gets a "new love interest".[/spoiler:3f8mn0gh]
4. The episode with the "what-ifs." [spoiler:3f8mn0gh]Wherein two characters get to see their life if they&#39;d never joined TW. I don&#39;t think Ianto is one of them, but who&#39;s to say the others don&#39;t pop into these possible non-TW lives (ie Gwen has 2.3 kids with Rhys and still works as a cop and meets Ianto dating her sister-in-law or something :dontknow:)[/spoiler:3f8mn0gh]
5. True bland, straight out new character and Ianto actually starts seeing someone other than Jack in standard continuity. (Ew! Please let them end up dying.)

Well, I just read this entire thread and my love of Janto has been completely reinforced. I was another viewer left disappointed by 'Meat', but thanks to all the interpretations and explainations I've read here I feel SO much better, and think I finally understand now. They're all the feelings and thoughts I had but could never put into the right words, so in a way I couldn't properly explain it to myself, and therefore doubt started to creep in...if that makes sense! But now knowing others feel the same way about the relationship/situation has really renewed my faith in Janto's relationship. Look at me rant, haha XD
Anyway, episode 5 looks to be just what I (and all of us I'm sure!) have been waiting for!

As for that spoiler for episode 11, oh my gosh I choked on my drink due to happiness!! :laugh: If that is true then this is one extremely happy, rabid fangirl... :grin:
